This is a core session of the advocacy training curriculum. Your training’s success will depend on whether participants have a clear understanding of advocacy. This session focuses on defining advocacy in the context of public libraries, why advocacy is an important part of library work, and what advocacy activities look like.

  • Script : This customizable script provides a definition of advocacy in the context of public libraries and recommends ways to make the content as relevant as possible. It also includes trainer talking points and suggestions for how to deliver the training and activities you could do.
  • PowerPoint Presentation : This PowerPoint provides a visual component to accompany the script and help create an interactive, engaging session. It will help you keep participants’ attention and the session on track.
  • Handouts : Handouts include a list of important advocacy tactics and general reminders and tips for conducting advocacy.
